Just What the hell is just a ‘Sad Asian Girl’? There’s been no shortage of trailblazing art start-ups in present months.
As a result of visually-led social platforms like Tumblr and Instagram, collectives can now tear up the ‘pale, male, stale rule that is for the industry and rewrite it; with competition activists just like the Art Hoes and fourth-wave feminists like Art Baby producing their very own type of innovative revolution.
For RISD students Olivia Park and Esther Fan, though, there is certainly still one group that is glaring left out. Annoyed by the tired stereotyping and ignorant assumptions made about their Asian history, the graphics design duo made a decision to join forces and alter the narrative. The end result may be the Asian that is‘Sad Girls’ – an innovative new sort of collective aimed at Asian women experiencing split by their life in western “white-male dominant” communities. “Sad Asian girls are a small grouping of asian people with common battles and frustrations, ” they declare inside their manifesto. “(We make an effort to) encourage other women that are asian talk up inside their surroundings, and stop the culture of silence and passivity. ”
